National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW)
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will host NIIW April 23-30.
For more information on this event visit: http://www.CDC.gov
There are three leading vaccine preventable forms of bacterial meningitis in infants. All three are debilitating and deadly. They are Hib, pneumococcal and meningococcal. Currently there are vaccines in the US to prevent pneumococcal and Hib meningitis.
There are new vaccines on the horizon to prevent most causes of meningococcal in infants. Talk to your health care provider.
Make sure your infants are protected against these deadly forms of meningitis.
Meningitis Angels will celebrate NIIW in Loveland Colorado by hosting a World Meningitis Day event, on April 30, to honor those affected by bacterial meningitis. We will be joining Angel Team Leader, Lisa Krizman and participating in Sierras' Race Against Meningitis.

ACIP Makes New Reccomendations for Meningococcal Vaccination
In October 2010 the ACIP voted to recommend a second meningococcal vaccine dose be added to the primary series for high-risk children.
Angels were there in full voice. All adolescents already were recommended to receive one dose of vaccine at age 11 or 12 years (or at 13-18 years if not previously vaccinated). The committee now has voted to recommend a booster dose at age 16 for adolescents who received their first dose at the preteen (age 11 or 12) visit. Those who received their initial dose at ages 13-15 should get a booster dose five years after that first dose especially all those entering college for the first time. Meningitis does not stop at the dorm room door. Talk to your healthcare provider today.
